Maximum of 8 participants.

Can't get into the studio vibe? Feel stuck? Afraid to look at what you've made? Not enough time for your practice? Want to try doing "nothing"?? What's In The Way is an experimental course that explores how practicing meditation might contribute to a sustainable art practice and help with obstacles in creative life.

Upon completing this course, participants will be able to:

> meditate using mindfulness techniques

> identify how meditation relates to their practice as an artist

Additional exercises, in the form of writing, discussion, and other contemplative acts, are designed to work in tandem with insights gained from meditation. Outside of class, students are encouraged to establish a regular time to meditate independently.

This course is open to all self identifying BIPOC artists of all stages and medium. While the course is designed to introduce meditation, it would also be appropriate for artists who already have a regular sitting practice and want to explore further the intersection of art and meditation.

ENROLLMENT:

This course is generously made possible by donors to the Artists' Literacies Institute, as well as ALI’s commitment to sharing revenue across projects, meaning that selected participants will be able to participate tuition free. In addition, there will be a small donation ($150) going towards each artist that may be used for materials and other artist needs.

Applying is easy! Your application will be considered in the order it arrives, and will be followed up by interviews with the course leader, Sakura Kelley.
